KDE4 apps will run natively on Mac OS X

With the move to QT4 which runs natively on Mac OS X, KDE developers promise a much nicer integration for OS X users.

The current solution for running a KDE app on OS X isn’t very nice. You have to compile the entire toolkit, then the KDE libraries and finally, the app itself. While it does work, the experience is not exactly user friendly. Worse, you have to use X11 if you want any pixel to appear on screen.

The situation could change with KDE4. Thanks to the native Mac OS X support in QT4, it will be possible to compile applications using native aqua libraries. If this means I can get KWrite or KDevelop nicely bundled in a standard .app container, then it’s really great news.
